What High-End Photography Actually Costs

Ok so here’s one that can be kindddaaa awkward to talk about, but I think we need to be more open about the realities of high-end wedding photography. How much does a full-out day really cost (and does it havvvee to be so high).

So let’s start with a basic day. You are obviously paying for the time and experience of the photographer. Then comes paying for any travel (unless it’s included). After that let’s say you want some film, some video, and oh add another photographer.

Film must be processed, video needs additional editing time (and video on film will also have to be sent off and processed). So that is going to add a bit. The second photographer must be paid for their time and possibly for their travel.

Then you have to consider the little extra things. Do you want someone who is doing 40 weddings a year or someone whose doing 10-15 weddings a year. Someone doing less weddings will be able to give you more attention and reallllyy get personal with you. But also means they may charge a bit more. Do you want an engagement session? Rehersal dinner coverage? You’re starting to look in the 7-15k plus range.

If you’re on a bit of a budget, personally, I would go for fewer hours and maybe just one photographer. Yes you might get less of reception or getting ready. But if your photographer is realllyy good, then the shots you have will actually be worth it. Vs getting some cute but maybe more basic shots allllll day long from someone who is solid but not going for that editorial high-end look.
